We were offered a short break at any Park Resorts site as compensation for a truly awful holiday at their Camber Sands site last year. After consulting TripAdvisor we decided to book at Weeley Bridge near Clacton in Essex and, with some trepidation, set off last Monday. On arrival we were very impressed with the layout and cleanliness of the site. The caravans / chalets are spaced well apart with many having their own verandah. There are several ponds and a large and very attractive fishing lake and ducks and moorhens wander freely over the whole site. The grounds are well maintained and very clean and tidy.
The staff are, without exception, friendly and helpful and we felt they genuinely wanted us to enjoy our break. The caravan we were allocated, a silver plus 2 bedroom, was very large with a twin bedroom with ensuite shower room and w.c. at one end and a double, also with ensuite shower room and w.c. at the other. This bedroom was the full width of the caravan (12 feet) and had 2 double wardrobes, a dressing table and 2 bedside cabinets as well as the comfortable double bed. The central area of the caravan was a spacious lounge are and fully equipped kitchen. We were lucky that the weather was glorious for the whole break and we took advantage by spending 2 full days by the lake – my husband fishing and me reading and doing crosswords while lapping up the sun. It was so peaceful and relaxing and, as it was not during school holiday period, the site was by no means full and there were not many children around. The people we met were of a similar age to us (50s/60s) and many had spent several holidays at Weeley Bridge. After our experience, we will definitely return for short breaks again. Just one thing, if you cannot manage steps, this site is not for you as all the accommodation is accessed by 3 or 4 steps.
