Not a fan of chain hotels or motel like accommodation I was pleased to be able to find this hotel which was within 10 minutes drive of my meeings in Broadstairs. What a find! The staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating; the room I had (310) was at the rear of the hotel but I actually think it was an advantage as I had fabulous views across open land to the sea. The room was large enough with a big old bedstead with matching vintage furniture. Like the rest of the hotel it was like stepping back in time, in a good way. All the mod cons were available, however, including tea, coffee and bottled water in the room, a large flat screen TV and a small but adequate ensuite with excellent quality towels. The big bonus though was the small balcony on which to sit and admire the view. The carpet was a bit worn, but it actually added to the character of the room. I suspect the room may get very hot when the temperature hits the peaks it had in previous weeks. There is no air con (it would be out of place in a hotel like this) but a fan is provided. Free wi-fi throughout was another welcome perk. I ate in the hotel restaurant in the evening and at breakfast. The evening meal was very good quality, freshly cooked to order and plentiful and served in a lovely room by attentive staff. Breakfast was buffet style with eggs cooked to order. All breakfast food was of high quality. I didn't get a chance to view all the public areas of the hotel but those I saw oozed character. I will definitely return if I am in the area again.
