Just a quick note to recommend the ‘W Hotel’ based in Uptown Manhattan. Strangely enough, it faces the rear of the famous Waldorf Astoria, so location really couldn’t be better.
We stayed there on a quick city break last August/September. I’m always a bit wary when travel agents recommend accommodation, having had various unsatisfactory experiences over the years, but the ‘W’ came up trumps.
Not far, and within easy walking distance from most of the famous Manhattan landmarks. Time Square is a couple of blocks down and Central Park a couple of blocks up from its location.
One of the few NYC Hotels we’ve stayed in that had a restaurant on site. We ate breakfast every morning, of our four day stay and excellent it was too. Didn’t try the restaurant in the evening, as we were too busy.
The hotel despite being on the large side, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, which for a NYC hotel is unusual, none of that ‘New Yoke attitude’ that one finds sometimes.
I suppose we would describe it as a boutique style hotel with quite modern furnishings and all the amenities you would normally expect. The rooms were reasonable but not over generous in size, but very comfortable and clean.
A quick word for the front desk staff, who were exceptionally helpful.
