Had a fabulous week recently in Peurto de la Cruz, Tenerife. It was so good to get away and the weather was very kind, the temperature reaching low 30 degrees c most days. This was my first visit to Tenerife, I found the volcanic black sand strange to see at first sight but soon adapted to the landscape. I was holidaying with my husband and our hotel for the week was the 4 star Sol Costa Atlantis which was situated directly opposite the beach. The hotel is in a busy location, plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops close by. Personally we couldn’t fault the hotel at all, all areas clean and tidy, very large dining room. We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis and there was always a good choice of food at breakfast. Our bedroom on the 10th floor at the front of the hotel was very comfortable and we had a good mountain view one side and could see the sea at the bottom of the street. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was easily accessible for people with poor mobility, ramping outside and lifts inside. In the evenings there is entertainment in the bar. The pool area was very clean and tidy and towels were provided to use at the pool. I particularly liked the accessibility of the pool too, as it does have a walk in area with a hand rail so I felt safe getting in and out . Hubby practically insisted that I had to go in the pool because I’d purchased a new cossie before we went on holiday so had to get it wet at least once during our stay otherwise it would have been a waste of money buying a new one, although he didn’t even dip his toes in the pool all week. Rest and relaxation was on the cards during most of our holiday along with gentle strolls and browsing in many of the independent shops. We had some delicious meals out during our stay at Cafe de Paris and Restaurant-Cafeteria La Coronela both reasonably priced and within easy walking distance of the hotel.
We did make time for a couple of trips, our first being a MUST visit to Mount Teide . There was a tour booking office directly opposite our Hotel so we booked our tickets there , the cost was 160 euros for 2 adult tickets which included the cable car. However, on the day we went the cable cars weren’t in operation due to windy weather conditions so people were refunded the cost of the cable car. Our trip was not spoilt by this because the scenery was well worth it. The coach did a half hour stop part way up the mountain for refreshments at the Restaurant Papillon in the Teide National Park, a beautiful scenic place to stop and we took a few selfies with the volcano in the background along with other photos of the landscape. There wasn’t enough time to purchase and eat a meal, although I have to say the food did look delicious so muffins to takeaway were the order of the day. We also had a half hour stop at Roques de Garcia.
Our second trip was to Loro Parque Zoo . We caught the Loro Parque road train which runs frequently from Peurto de la Cruz town centre (the road train leaves from McDonald’s, under the Catalonia Las Vegas Hotel) The train ride to and from the Parque was free. Adult admission price into the Parque is 40 Euros per adult. Opening times 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Sunday. The zoo houses a wide variety of reptiles, birds and mammals. I particularly enjoyed seeing the lions, alligators and the chimpanzees who never fail to entertain . However, because it was such a hot day when we visited the zoo the animals were tired. The lions lay asleep with their legs up in the air , the black panther lay on a rock with his/her tongue hanging out. Having said that we had a fabulous day at the zoo, there were several nice cafes and restaurants there and the zoo itself was very well kept, beautiful gardens and plant life to see.
Our holiday to Peurto de la Cruz was fabulous from the Hotel, the local area, the weather and day trips I couldn’t have been happier. Needless to say I was sad to leave but here’s to our next adventure to wherever that may be .
