Relaxation

We took advantage of the Village Hotel sale deal and got a bargain room – £42 including breakfast for the two of us.

We had a great weekend. The hotel is very much sports focussed – it has its own golf course (Heron’s Reach) and my husband pre-booked a tee time using a last minute website called Teeofftimes – so it cost £13 instead of the £20 shown on their own website. He really enjoyed the course, although it could do with a few benches near the tees.

I enjoyed the swimming pools – one outside and one inside, both decent sized and warm. I was even impressed with the changing rooms – GHD hairdryers and straighteners no less! There’s a gym too – although I gave that a miss, and there seemed to be lots of fitness classes going on, but I’m not sure if hotel guests can access those.

Rooms are comfortable, decorated in darker colours. I found reading tricky as the lighting is atmospheric but not great to read by! The bathroom needed an overhaul but was clean and functional.

We did well for dining offers – on our first night – we had an offer called Girls at the Grill which has 2 courses and a glass of fizz for 2 people for £29, we had starters and mains and really enjoyed the food. We were too full for pudding.

On the Friday night the bar does a burger for a £1 offer – you can upgrade to have cheese and bacon on the burger and fries on the side so it costs £4 – so not a bad deal. It wasn’t a big portion but it was fine. There aren’t any bars or restaurants within easy walking distance, so you’d need a car or taxi if you were going out in the evening.
The staff were all lovely and friendly and we had a great weekend. The hotel is right opposite Stanley Park and beside Blackpool Zoo and close to the model village. You can drive into Blackpool quite easily. It’s a couple of miles out, so you could walk if you are fit – we didn’t bother – the swimming and golf were enough for us.

The hotel is accessible – its 2 storeys high and there’s a lift. There’s plenty of free parking too.

Certainly worth a punt if you get a good deal. Sign up for their website offers.
