Reasons for trip

We wandered into this lovely hotel in Bamburgh at the end of April and had a very nice meal. It is located at the top of Front Street across from The Grove (forested village green). At 5:30 pm the menu was just changing over from lunch/bar snacks to the evening meal in half an hour. All the tables outside were taken so we settled down at a large table in the bar near the dining room with our drinks to rest after a day of walking around the castle and town. There were a number of dogs in the bar and a ruckus broke out at one point, but there was a very friendly atmosphere all around.

Two of us had the scampi, chunky chips and mushy peas (£23.90 for the two); one had a classic 8 oz steak burger topped with streaky bacon, cheese, onion rings, fries and relish (£11.95); and one the beetroot and asparagus tarte with goat cheese, tomatoes and rocket (£10.95) and a side order of chunky chips (£2.95). The tarte was served on a wooden board and was one of the tastiest meals I have had in a while. The scampi and chips were so plentiful that one order between two would have been enough. That said, everything was delicious and I don’t think it was just the fresh sea air that gave us our appetites.
