This is the third review I’ve written about “Turtle Bay”:http://www.turtlebay.co.uk/ in Walthamstow E17 but sometimes places do change. But as I discovered fortunately not this one.
We visited on early on a Friday night. The place was already lively but a range of people: some on the last legs of a late, lazy lunch; others have after work, pre-weekend cocktails; and people like us wanting a Northern style 5pm ‘tea’.
Neither of us were absolutely ravenous and so we opted for choices from the ‘Lunch n Lighter’ section of the “menu”:http://www.turtlebay.co.uk/wp-content/themes/turtle-bay-site/downloads/menu2016-A3-Web.pdf – a jerk chicken wrap (£7) and mango and goats cheese salad (£9.50). The former came with sweet potato fries and coleslaw (made with red cabbage) and we shared both as they complemented each other so well. Along with another cocktail, a citrus lemon tart went down well between two.
Rather than wine, we started, and finished on Jamaican Mule cocktails made from Jerry’s spiced rum, lime and fiery ginger beer. It was a long refreshing drink and as happy hour appears to extend for most of the day, they’re pretty good value at two for £6.95.
The service as usual was excellent: attentive but not too fussy and it’s not surprising that since the place opened just over a year ago, it still remains busy and lively.
