In the middle of Alnwick on Market Street, you can’t miss Turnbull’s. with its blue and white paint and boxes of fruit and vegetables spilling onto the pavement. It must be one of the longest established shops in Alnwick, selling meat since 1880.

Not only does it sell excellent meat (recommend the sausage and bacon too) this is the place to come for pies and pasties, filled rolls and cakes as well as packets of locally made biscuits. If you are after Craster kippers, they also sell vacuum packs of these too.

There is so much to tempt.”Website”:https://www.turnbullsofalnwick.co.uk/ I came away with a selection of pies and pasties, fruit scones, chocolate cake, biscuits and kippers. All were excellent and not expensive. I was very strongly tempted by the beef too, but wasn’t able to carry anymore…

The shop is open 8am – 5pm.
