Reasons for trip

After a whole morning of sight seeing in Kiev, we felt a little hungry. We decided to stop and have some lunch. Tsarskoe Selo restaurant was recommended to us by some friends. It was centrally located. There were plenty of car parking space in front of the restaurant. As we entered into the restaurant I was very impressed by the quirky interior decorations. For a moment I thought I have gone to Disneyland by mistake. The whole place was decorated traditional Ukrainian style. Very colourful and a lot of attention to details. They also have seating area outside in the garden. Even though it was warm and sunny outside, we still choose to sit inside so that we can enjoy the atmosphere, the sund an the colour.

The waitress dressed in traditional Ukrainian costume came to greet us and showed us to our table. The whole place was decorated like a traditional Ukrainian farm, with a farmer lying down and resting on the wooden cart, a water wheel turning round and round and also a bull ( model) standing behind our table. Very impressive.

The waitress speak very little English. She presented us with a menu in both Ukrainian and English. It was a big menu, lots of dishes to choose from. All the dishes had got the weight written in gram on the side of the menu. This is ensure that customer get the right quantity. I think that is good idea because you know exactly how many grams of food you will be getting on your plate.

We order a selection of starters including pasties, soup, and dumpling with sour cream so that we can have a taste of all the different dishes. For main course we ordered duck fillet, turkey breast stuff with apricot and of course chicken Kiev. All the dishes were well presented and in large portion ( as stated in grams on the menu). We order some preserved traditional Ukrainian fruit juices to drink. Both the food and drinks were delicious. It was a lovely restaurant. We enjoyed the food, the service and the decoration. The bill was very reasonable. It came to £49 for 4 people. It was a real bargain. Next time if we come to Kiev again we will definitely pay another visit to this restaurant. I recommend it.
