There are hundreds of hotels to choose from in Vegas, but after much research we choose the Tropicana. Recently modernised and part of the Hilton group, it is small in casino terms amongst the Strip hotels, but well located at the upper end of the Boulevard. The main reason we choose this hotel was that we wanted somewhere where we didn't have to use a lift – which is quite a tall order in this city. At the Trop they have 'bungalow rooms' which is basically a low rise block all with balconies overlooking the gorgeous tropical garden and pool area. Insist on a ground floor room if you want to avoid a lift as even though low rise the stairs are "emergency use only". Sitting on the balcony you could be in southern Europe or the Caribbean, the lovely palms and flowers and flowing water are lovely and the hustle and bustle of the city is excluded. The Beach Cafe where you have breakfast (thoroughly recommended and super buffet) and lunch has an outside terrace looking onto the gardens, and is really a nice place to enjoy. The pool itself can get quite busy but there is plenty of grass to find a spot for your sunbed. The hotel is a short walk to the monorail in MGM Grand hotel next door. The list of things to do is endless but don't forget to visit downtown Freemont Street, and the interesting Mob Museum.
