My wife and I stayed overnight here when we had tickets for the World Athletics at the London Olympic stadium, and for that it was ideal. It took only about 10 minutes to drive from there to the Westfield shopping mall where we parked, and from where you can walk through into the Olympic park.
It’s a Travelodge, so you know what you’re going to get – a basic room with few frills – but it was clean (and not as expensive as the hotels nearer the park!) and served its purpose. However, it shares its car park with the Toby Inn next door, and on arrival we had to enter our registration number on a computer in reception, to show we were bona fide guests. This we did, on arrival, in the evening on return from the event, and again the following morning. A little while later, a parking fine letter arrived to say we were parked there illegally! Fortunately, when I proved we had stayed at the hotel, the fine was cleared. When I inquired with the hotel, however, as to why this had happened, I got a very unsatisfactory response – “Sometimes the computer doesn’t work properly”!
One other tip – there is no restaurant there, but don’t bother with the ‘breakfast box’ they offer in the hotel. It’s a rip-off at £5+ and you’d be better off at the Toby Inn next door!
We’ll be back at the same hotel in November when we go to the tennis at the O2, so watch this space.
