Two girl friends and myself decided to have an overnight stay in London to enjoy a meal, a show and a gossip! As my friends were arriving at St Pancras station late afternoon on a Friday, we thought a hotel in that vicinity would be best. The price for a family room (so we could share) was only £63.00 at the Travelodge London Central Kings Cross! It was approx 5 minute walk from the station in a very busy location. Check in wasn’t the best I’ve encountered (as in the welcome was non existent) and no extra information was readily provided but it was adequate (the receptionist who later provided the hairdryer was far more pleasant). Although there were three of us staying in one room we were only offered one “key card” but that wasn’t a major issue. The “key card” also allowed access to the doors leading to the rooms for added security.

The room was of an average size with a large double bed and a sofa bed. Although it was basic – it was clean and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. There were plug points near the mirror and there was full length mirror on the back of the door. The bathroom, although quite small considering it was a family room, had a large walk in shower and it was good to have large bath towels. For some reason you had to request the use of a hairdryer from reception (probably theft issues?).

Although we all enjoyed a good night's sleep there was quite a lot of noise early next morning which was to be expected given we were in central London by a mainline station.

Breakfast the following morning was £5.40 each which we all thought was exceptionally reasonable! Although there wasn’t a cooked option there was plenty of choice and variety of cereals, yoghurt, toast, jams, marmite, cheese, tinned grapefruit, mandarin oranges and two types of pastries. Tea, coffee, juices and iced water were also available. Breakfast was served from 08.00 until 11.00am. The breakfast room/bar area appeared very clean and the two members of staff we met were friendly and helpful. The hot drinks machine had broken so they had to make our teas and coffees(an engineer arrived to fix the machine as we finished our breakfast).

Bar was open until 04.30 although we did not take advantage of this we did notice that bottles of wine were reasonably priced at £14.00! Checkout was at the usual Travelodge time of 12.00pm.

This Travelodge was far better than we expected and I would not hesitate to stay there again in similar circumstances. Our original choice was a nearby Premier Inn but not only was a lot more expensive there were no family rooms available.
