We booked this 9 months ago at the special (non cancellable) rate of £121 for five nights, compared with the normal current rate of £289. It is an excellent location, just off the Berwick upon Tweed bypass. There is a MacDonalds below the car park and Morrisons with a cafe across the road. Use these for breakfast rather than the Travelodge Breakfast bag at £4.50 per person for cereal, croissant and fruit juice.

We booked in at 5.30 on a Sunday evening and there were no rooms left on the ground floor. There is no lift which could be an issue for those having difficulty with stairs and luggage.

We had a typical travelodge room with double bed with two small shelves on either side and bed lights. There was a large settee which doubles as a bed with a smaller pull out bed underneath. We used this as somewhere to keep belongings off the floor. There was a long table with arm chair, TV , kettle, two mugs and basic supply of tea, coffee and UHT milk replenished daily. If wanting more than one cup of tea each, bring a supply of tea bags with you. The bathroom with a small bath had an over the bath shower. There was a very poor flush on the toilet – we think there must have been a large brick in the cistern. There were two large bath towels but only one hand towel which seemed to be the standard issue. They were a generous size but thin and got wet quickly. There was the usual tiny bar of soap which lasts two days if you are careful. I had to ask for a replacement bar. There was a spare toilet roll but this wasn’t replaced either.

The bed was made but not changed during a five night stay. Bins were emptied but floors were not vacuumed. The sink wasn’t always cleaned. Carpets in public areas often looked in need of a clean and some areas were looking in need of a coat of paint.

The room was quiet and we weren’t troubled by traffic noise on the nearby A1. However there could be noise from groups of bikers visiting the drive through Macdonalds and reving up their bikes.

This was good value on a bargain break but expensive for what is supplied if you pay full price.
