Reasons for trip

We’d seen Trattorie del Mediterraneo on a previous night and were becoming a little tired of tapas so returned to Plaza del Campillo. The tables were set for dinner in a covered awning with the main restaurant being across the road. It started well with a bottle of vino blanco whilst we ordered lasagne and a spicy pizza Diavola. The lasagne was brick shaped and a little dry: the type that had been made the day before so that all the sauce had been absorbed into the pasta. The pizza was large, crisp and thin and with a good covering of salami and lots of cheese – all it really needed was a good twist of black pepper.

We decided to have a limoncello and coffee to complete the evening but it was very difficult to get the attention of the waiter partly because now it was 9pm and much busier but mainly due to a demanding Australian couple sitting behind who appeared never to have been out of their country before. Eventually we went inside to pay the €30.50 bill and returned to our hotel for nightcaps.

Beware if you have any allergies, as the square is full of plane trees which can make for snuffles and sneezes.
