Reasons for trip

This little train rattles & rocks you across Provence from Nice to Digne-les-Bains past stupendous scenery on a 3 hour journey with stupendous views, long tunnels & fast running snow melt icy blue rivers. There are plenty of stops to get out from & for walkers the favourites seem to be Annot which nestles in the heart of a preserved natural environment with its medieval village & architectural treasures. Or Entrevaux, a charming Haute Provence village. A former fortified royal town. Built on a rocky overhang dominating the Var.

Final stop, Dignex-Les-Bains, a Spa town & capital city of Lavender. A UNESCO site at 600 m altitude is at the intersection of three valleys in the heart of thecHaute-Provence Geoparc.

Beware for people of mature years, the comfort factor leaves a lot to be desired when the train is full. No drinks available. An electric loo which for the claustrophobic is not good, being sealed in! A paradise for walkers with the advantage of numerous small halts that the train will stop at on demand.
