We attended a family wedding reception here in August and made sure we booked a room B&B in plenty of time. Neither of us was going to drive anywhere after a wedding, were we!
It is in a great location, just off junction 42 of M4 (Swansea east), with the old red-brick tower a stunning icon in front of the main hotel. There are a few exclusive rooms in the tower, the Bridal Suite on the top floor. Apparently, they are still waiting for a groom to accomplish the climb of 165 steps to the room while carrying his bride – didn’t happen this time either!
Staff were friendly and welcoming, and they put on a great spread from the warm canapes and cold Pimms on arrival to a splendid sit-down meal. The highlight has to be the dessert. The groom and friends, all Royal Marines in full dress uniform (very handsome of course) disappeared, then reappeared in line, each carrying a plate with a pyramid of profiteroles topped by a spectacular sparkler! This ‘wow’ factor was topped when we got up close to the dessert – flowers and leaves dotted amongst the dark and white chocolate smothering the choux buns.
As we were all nervous of then tackling this vision, the waitress came and dug into it with a vengeance plonking a huge portion on each plate. We did, of course, manage to eat it. Altogether, it was a lovely hotel with comfortable, clean room and excellent breakfast so we would certainly visit again.
