Torbay ..included Torquay Paignton and Brixham
Firstly one reason we all give to go overseas is climate…so how about finding a milder climate here…even in winter a visit to Torbay you can enjoynmuch milder warmer weather. We never see frost or snow… Torbay is easy to reach by road via M5 and rail with stations at Torquay and Paignton … National Coach from Victoria to Brixham as well. Exeter 20 miles away has an excellent small airport.
Torquay built up when wealthy homeowners left the Riveara to live in the uk seeking a mild climate and safe harbour ..Paignton is a lively seaside town with cinema and pier. Brixham is a working fishing harbour. So within Torbay we have a lot to offer.
Our mild winter climate makes us a good out of season destination. National Trust members love this area as we have two properties in Torbay , well ones technically are on the border. One property was a home of Agatha Christie..Greenway . Nearby is Coleton Fishacre holiday home built for D’oly Carte …owerr of the savoy. A short drive gets you to Castle Drogo..the last castle built in the uk…home to the ower of Home and Colonial. Saltrum Killerton and The Roundal are a short drive.
Torbay alone has lots to offer…the South West Coastal which runs along our coast is a path provided a stunning walk. Berry Head Country park with remains in a nepolionic fort is an area of outstanding beauty. The cafe there The Guard House enjoys some stunning unique views .good food too . Stunning views of the bay and of Lyme Bay too. You may see dolphins…gillimots nest on the cliffs here in spring , Living Coasts on the harbour at Torquay has birds who live on the edge…cliff edge and penguins. Torquay has a theatre and many touring shows visit here .Paignton has a zoo. Proudness of it work in animal conservation. We have the Steam railway that runs from Paignton to Kingwear passing the coast and enjoys views over the sea and inland past Greenway along the river Dart to Kingswear for Dartmouth.
Brixham a fishing port is enjoyed by those who like walks with Berry Head and south coast foot path.. Town Museum is free to visit and tells the story of the town. A range of restaurants here and coffee shops mean you hardly need to leave the town. A thriving seaside town . We don’t close in winter so many silver travelers enjoy this area in winter..enjoy our mild winter climate and what we have to offer.
