Have just returned from a wonderful one night stay at Warner's Leisure Hotel at Thoresby Hall. Their advertisement for a Christmas Party Night caught our eye and as we have enjoyed staying at some of their hotels previously decided this sounded like fun. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie we were in the party spirit!
This magnificent grade 1 listed building looked splendid decorated so beautifully with Christmas trees around the various rooms and restaurants. We were impressed with the library and stately public lounges with cosy log fires to relax by. Our standard bedroom was in the new building and it was spacious with very comfortable twin beds and a clean modern bathroom.. Tastefully furnished with a small table and two armchairs to sit and enjoy the complimentary biscuits tea/coffee. Before our evening meal we visited the Spa & Leisure Centre but found the pool rather cool (we had been warned) but soon warmed up in the sauna and steam room. Lots of tempting spa treatments to be had here but one must book in advance.
Our Christmas dinner was great and exceeded our expectations. Tables furnished with crackers, hats and balloons set the scene. The menu had a good choice with drinks, starters and desserts served and an excellent plentiful buffet of turkey, beef, salmon, vegetarian dishes and vegetables. After cofffee there was the evening entertairment to look forward to. We enjoyed music and dancing from the 60's, which was followed by a late night disco! At this hour we became party poopers as our bed was calling, although with a mixed age group of people, mostly 50+, there were plenty of takers.
After a delicious full English breakfast and a short walk around some the grounds (there are about 30 acres) we sadly departed for a rainy journey home but with every intention of visiting here again soon.
