Reasons for trip

The queue, to check-in for our Thomas Cook flight at London Gatwick, was long and snaking as it dealt with multiple flights. But it was preferable than having to guess which queue would move quicker and then getting irritated when it’s wasn’t yours.

It took 20 minutes to reach the desk but the friendly girl was very efficient and we were soon booked in on our flight to Rethymnon, Crete. And before anyone asks why we hadn’t checked on online and just done a baggage drop, we’d booked a package holiday and our travel agent said we didn’t need to. Note to self: talk to travel agent on return.

We were 30 minutes late taking off but I’ve no idea why, as I fell asleep whilst we were still on the tarmac. We’d paid for emergency exit seats to get extra leg room which was pretty good, even for my 6’ 2” partner. We were also lucky as the flight wasn’t full and so had three seats to ourselves.

The flight was unadventurous and there were a couple of drink runs. Some people had ordered meals from a choice of pasta Pomodoro, all day breakfast, beef with dumplings and Thai green curry. We settled for our usual G&T and packet of Pringles and both wondered why we only ever eat Pringles on flights.
Our flight time was 3 hours 30 minutes and despite setting off late, we landed 10 minutes early.

Our return flight wasn’t at a great time, taking off at 10.15pm and landing at 12.30am It was as good as on the way out with most people setting down to a doze after their drink. It’s just a shame our normally 100% reliable taxi driver wasn’t there to meet us at Gatwick!
