This venerable and ancient public drinking room as it was, has been ripped apart and put back together beautifully. It was reopened in September 2011. Originally a drinking room on its own, the owner, Mr.Thornton built a music hall to the rear in 1865, now the wonderfully refurbished and world famous City Varieties Theatre. The refurbishment of the White Swan has opened up original links to the theatre so that theatre goers can eat or dine before, during and after performances. The pub has been seen in many guises over the years under different names, with varying success. Leeds Brewery saw the potential and have made this their fifth owned premises, and a great job they have done. Green walls, dark wood and sofas on different levels have made this a very relaxed place. Naturally, Leeds Brewery's brilliant own real ales dominate but there are other choices. Good pub food is also provided. Open during the day too, it is a great place to call in simply for tea or coffee, a superb antidote to the ubiquitous and formulaic coffee chains.
