Well I’ve been in a few fish and chip shops in my time, but this one must not only be the smallest, but also the best!
Firstly, it’s tiny. You can’t get more than about 5 or 6 people in at a time, and usually it’s packed! Queues out of the door and down the street! Top tip – ring and order in advance, then you can jump the queue and go straight in.
This place won the award for “best chippy chips in Scotland” and also “Scotland’s best takeaway” in 2014, and I would have to agree with whoever judged that competition! What intrigued me the most was not the range of freshly-caught fish on offer, but the more traditional Scottish delicacies – haggis and black pudding, served in deep-fried bite sizes. I chose the mixed bites with chips – delicious! Not too wonderful for cholesterol levels or the heart, but for a once-in-a-while treat….!
If you ever happen to be up Helensburgh way, don’t miss it!
