A national trust treasure where they are embarking on a multi million pound restoration of the roof. By making the roof accessible, by stair or lift, it opens a whole new world to visitors. Work in progress for the rest of the year shows a fascinating insight into how buildings were constructed throughout the many periods with very knowledgeable volunteers on hand to provide further information and stories. The rest of the house is also under major reworking but still so interesting. The slope down to the lake may be challenging for some people but there are plenty of places accessible for all. Restaurant very pleasant if a little expensive to my mind. On the whole not the slickest operation, no shopping experience overload, which actually adds to the charm of this visit.
