What an amazing experience from start to finish, set in glorious countryside just a few minutes from Newbury and it’s racecourse and the Kennet and Avon canal.

Plenty of free parking as you pull into the hotel, which has lovely grounds and is next to a golf course. A warm welcoming greeting at check in with Pimms and Strawberries followed by a tour of the hotel and spa facilities with a brief history of the hotel and it’s amazing 30,000 bottle wine collection, some of which comes from the owners vineyards in California.

The room was luxurious, spacious and large. Large bed and side cabinets, two armchairs and a sofa plus sideboards with tea and coffee making facilities. Full mini bar and also more Strawberries and fudge topped with gold leaf. Large bathroom with full bathroom and separate shower. We had patio doors leading onto the patio with table and chairs.

The hotel has full spa facilities but we only used the Jacuzzi and heated indoor pool.
We had a five course tasting menu paired with fine wines from around the world for dinner. Probably the best meal I have ever tasted all in a wonderful setting and nice relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast the following morning was equally as good with plenty of choice. The staff were probably the best we have come across and so happy and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Even posted home my wife’s jacket she left in the room. This hotel is right up there with the best, but it doesn’t come cheap.
