It’s nearly a month since my wife and I returned from Vegas where we stayed in the Venetian. I have so many vivid memories of the hotel that I felt I should really share some of these with other Silver Travellers.
Firstly, it’s not really a hotel, but more a resort where you can get and do anything you want or need – and more. Of course it’s a casino hotel, but unlike others we’ve stayed in in Vegas, you don’t have to trip over slot machines to get to your room! In fact, if you’re like us and are not really interested in gambling, then it’s quite possible to ignore the machines and tables, although you can’t miss seeing them! All we wanted from our trip was to relax in the sunshine (30 degrees every day in October) and to see some shows in the evening. This we did, spending our day by the pool (until it got too hot!), eating in one of the many restaurants available, and then seeing two shows in the hotel and one in the nearby Mirage hotel.
I’ve been reading previous reviews of the Venetian from Sarah26, whose two line description doesn’t really do the place justice, and Suzieloo who particularly loved her suite – but there have been some changes since her visit in 2011. Like her, we had a superb room/suite, with the palatial bathroom, the extravagant bed, the generously comfortable sunken lounge area, the three televisions, the mini-bar and even the automatic curtains and blinds. Luxurious it certainly was! We even splashed out on an upgrade to a room with a view – see photo! It’s not the cheapest hotel on the strip, but if you want somewhere for a special occasion ,it’s ideal.
And finally, I must not forget to mention that it’s just like being in Venice! You can ride a gondola – either indoors on the canal (yes, indoors!) or on the lake outside. You can eat in St Marks Square and spend money in the Grand Canal Shoppes. It’s a wonderland!
