I just want to mention that for the more adventurous and active of you out there a cracking day out is to have an adventure on one of the several Via Ferrata routes in the Dolomites. Linking old quarries, mountain trails and the like one is hooked up to a cable whilst one walks and climbs along these often precipitous paths. There are different levels of quaking terror available but all are great fun. Not for everyone I know (my wife!) but I loved it. Highly recommended.
