Reasons for trip

The Swiss garden has opened again in the last month after extensive restoration with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It has been extremely well done and we shall be going back in a few years when the new planting has matured. There is plenty to see now, however, with lovely vistas and quirky buildings. The ponds are clear and the old ironwork has been carefully restored and painted.

The Grotto and Fernery are fun and on the lower floor of the Swiss Cottage are books of interesting photographs of the past life of the garden. Wooden markers are placed at various points of interest around the garden.

There are plenty of seats around the garden where you can sit and look at the views and if you want refreshments these can be obtained at the cafe/gift shop in the adjacent car park which serves both the garden and the Shuttleworth Collection (reviewed separately). You can buy tickets for just the garden or for the two attractions which is what we did. The website for the garden is www.theswissgarden.org but was not very up to date when I last looked.
