Reasons for trip

At the south end of Lake Windermere, the River Leven carries on into the south end of the Lake District past “The Swan Hotel and Spa”:http://www.swanhotel.com/ in Newby Bridge. On a recent visit to the Lakes, we stopped here for a coffee before hitting the motorway to begin the journey home. My aunt and uncle had stayed here last fall for a weekend break and liked it so much they wanted to stop in again. There are numerous white wrought iron tables and chairs on the outside patio by the river side. While my uncle went inside to order our lattes, my aunt and I enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine on the patio and watched the ducks swimming by. Funnily enough, we did not see any swans. However, it is a very peaceful and pleasant spot to have a delicious coffee.

The Hotel is the large white building right at the bridge over the river. Next to the hotel is a marina so you might also be treated to watching some boats as well as the waterfowl.
