Location: Bang in the centre of Hay on Wye and ideal for seeing the town and all its bookshops.
Facilities: We had a double room at the front of the hotel which was a bit noisy. Our bed was 4ft 6 which was a tad on the cosy side but the bedlinen was great, as were the pillows. Shower room was great with a very powerful shower. They provide mini toiletries which I didn’t use as I’m not keen on single use plastic. There was a hairdryer and iron/ironing board plus a fan should you need it. The TV was fine and the wifi was efficient.
Breakfast was excellent – good quality ‘Swan’ breakfast which was full fry up plus cereals, jams, pastries, whole fruit, yoghurt. The delicious butter was served on a piece of Welsh slate. Nice touch.
The hotel has a bar where we had dinner. Again excellent food. I had chicken Kiev with sweet potato chips and a home made slaw.
We arrived during the heatwave so could take advantage of the lovely gardens to have drinks outside.
The hotel is easy walking into town, but I didn’t see a lift so not sure if it is for everyone.
A short walk from the hotel takes you to a riverside walk along the banks of the Wye which was delightful.
The town itself is of course a booklovers paradise with lots of title to be had for as little as £1.
We are thinking of going again next year for longer to make the most of the surrounding areas and would book this hotel again as it is good value for money.
