Reasons for trip

Puerto Marina is Benalmádena’s new modern marina and even on a cold, February night it was relatively busy. After wandering around the numerous bars, restaurants, shops and enviously looking at the seriously impressive boats, we had a happy- hour cocktail and decided it was time to eat.
We discovered a walkway up some steps with a series of restaurants with the kitchen and main restaurant on the right and a smaller dining balcony area opposite – some were so small they had just one large circular dining table.
At The Steak House a man made huge efforts to entice us in describing some of the menu items, so we rewarded his efforts and went in. He told us that the restaurant next door (La Laguna) was owned by the same people and suggested their dining area may be warmer – we weren’t sure whether this was true, but it seemed a good idea to heat and share one room on a rather cold, wintry Tuesday evening. On checking the website later, we found the restaurants were indeed connected.
Our table in a corner of the balcony overlooked the marina but swaying masts in the strong wind made my partner feel a little queasy. We shared a tapas starter of chorizo in red wine with bread – it wasn’t the thinly sliced chorizo we’d anticipated and was more like thin chipolatas cut into chunks. But it was tasty and the bread mopped up the juices.
I settled on a large 12oz burger and had the choice of two toppings so opted for caramelized onions and mushrooms. Roy’s large piece of pork came with mushrooms and we shared a portion of very good chips. He struggled to eat all the pork so I suggested a man-made surreptitious doggy bag putting chopped up pork into a left over roll to take away. We decided to have coffee and a nightcap: an espresso and a G&T for Roy and café con leche with cointreau for me. The G&T was served in a large heavy gold fish bowl and mine in a large square heavy tumbler. The drinks came to €12.50 and €14 respectively within a total of €72.50.
