I called in here after visiting “St Mary’s and All Saints’ Church “:http://wasleys.org.uk/eleanor/churches/england/east_midlands/derbyshire/chesterfied_mary/index.html , (the church with the crooked spire) which doesn’t have toilets. I was politely told I would have to go to the Spire by Stephensons…. (which is one way of encouraging folk to visit!).
It is an attractive small tea room set in the grounds of St Mary’s Church with a small servery with a tempting display of cakes. There are two rooms with wooden tables and an open fire. Toilets are round the back and well maintained and pleasant to use.
The cake selection varies from day to day with thirty different varieties being baked on the premises. It was decidedly tempting, with some unusual cakes. My slice of chocolate and apricot cake was generous and was also very good. At £2.80 it struck me as being very good value too.
