Relaxation

We have recently come back from a 2 night Spring Explorer stay at this impressive house, small but clearly full of significance in the history of the Forest of Dean. It stands at a crossroads at the very centre of the Forest, and their restaurant is located in the Verderers’ Court, an ancient local seat of justice. Restaurant food great, by the way, although noted only one veggie option, FYI. Wine list very reasonable. Our package included a lovely double room in the main house (room 10, two floors up without a lift, but if you are able, gives you views out over the forest, and is like a suite with full bath, sofa, ceiling beams etc. Tea & coffee making facilities but no minibar or fridge. Breakfast was mix of buffet and cooked, good choice and well cooked. Package included cream tea on arrival in the Orangery restaurant /bar and hire of bicycles for the day at nearby Pedalabikeaway. Alternative package provides walkers /birdwatchers with a packed lunch for the day instead. Lovely friendly place, clearly a favorite with people in the area. Walks start outside the door, and there is an impressive arboretum 100 yards along from the hotel towards Cinderford. We will be back. We may try one of the Courtyard rooms next time – all ground floor, and some have four poster beds. Tons to do in the area, we were lucky with the weather but if not good, there is a little cinema in Coleford or you could take shelter on the local network of steam trains! Check out website /hotel for facilities for disabled access, and for current rate for packages. Let’s just say, the value was superb.
