While celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary with a cruise from Southampton, we decided to spend a few days in London, and chose The Rubens at The Palace. First impressions are that this is a hotel from another era, but the service and attention to detail is amazing. From the time that the door is opened for you by the concierge staff, through check-in, to the detail of the rooms, everything is spotless and very efficient. There is a slightly ‘dreamy lift’, which comes when it is ready …..slowly, but elegantly(!) and when we arrived in our room a 50th Anniversary plate of goodies was waiting for us. If there is a criticism, it is that the beds are very high and we are not ‘little people’ but you have to consciously climb up on to the bed. This might be a disadvantage to a less able customer, but perhaps they have suitable rooms for such customers. Each morning, the ‘English’ Breakfast is buffet style and sufficient to set you up for the day! The concierge staff are excellent at recommending things to do and see, for those on a short break. On returning from our cruise in the Med, we again stayed at The Rubens and I liked the simple touch of the Reception staff enquiring whether we had enjoyed our cruise, and asking where we had all visited …that is good customer relations. Thank you to everyone at The Rubens, for making our stay so special and to the Management Team and staff for all of their efforts.
