We enjoyed a lovely meal in the Rising Sun Hotel outside Cheltenham. It is an attractive Cotswold stone building in a great location. It is on the top of Cleeve Hill with fantastic panoramic views over five counties and is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There is a traditional restaurant inside, but we chose to sit outside because the weather was so glorious. The menu included pub classics with seasonal ingredients. We had a camembert sharing platter to start. Then I had sea bass rissotto for the main course with ice cream and sorbet for desert. There was a good choice of drinks on offer. The meals were reasonably priced with the service being efficient and friendly.
The Rising Sun is also a residential hotel with rooms on several floors with no lift. However, we have vowed to return one day and stay for the weeend.
