Culture / Sightseeing

My wife and I wanted to visit Newquay and that part of the Cornwall coast, and bought a deal from Travelzoo to stay at the Pentire and celebrate our wedding anniversary.

We had been hoping for a nice room, so paid extra to stay in “the best room in the hotel”. Well as rooms go, it was quite nice on the face of it and had a good view across Fistral beach, but we had one of the most uncomfortable beds we have ever slept in – or tried to sleep in. If that was the best room in the hotel, I hate to think what the others might have been like!

Further, as part of the deal, we had £10 per person off a meal in their restaurant. On arrival, the eating options were explained to us and we were told that the set 3-course menu in the restaurant cost £15.99. When I asked about the deal, the receptionist replied that if we were to take the deal, the cost of the meal would be £19.99! Our £10 discount suddenly became a £6 discount! This was very annoying but not as annoying as the speed of service (or lack of it) in the restaurant as this is obviously a hotel which caters for coach parties. Additionally, the quality of the meal was average at best, making our stay at the Pentire not one we will remember fondly nor will we be repeating any time soon.
