Reasons for trip

Relaxation

We stayed here over the New Year period last year. It's not too far from the airport (10 mins) and is a new hotel and Port Ghalib is a new resort.

We have stayed in many Intercontinental hotels, this one fell a little bit short of our expectations. Due to the hotel being new, it lacked atmosphere. However, it did not lack noise around the pool – with lots of kids making lots of noise.

The pool itself was nice though and the beack area was nice.

DO NOT stay in the adjoining Crowne Plaza unless you unless you like lots of noise and lots of drinking from 9am onwards – we visited it! Never again.

Port Ghalib Waterfront is a short 10 minute walk away and has lots of shops and restaurants. Once the whole waterfront has been completed, I think this will be quite a popular resort. The quality of the architecture is good – they have learnt the lessons of Hurghada.

The hotel food was ok. Big buffet breakfasts – standard in Egypt and over priced 5 star meals at night – food was not too bad though. We ate out at the harbour a lot.

If you are looking for a quiet resort for a week's break – get a good deal – it is a hotel worth considering.

DO NOT go horse riding – I was thrown – the horses were wild and not run by the hotel. We got out money back.

Staff polite, service slow – as with everywhere in Egypt.
