Reasons for trip

The Paddocks Tea Room always features in the North Lincolnshire Tea Pot Trail and rightly so.

Daughter and I took ourselves out there for her birthday lunch. It isn’t the easiest of places to reach as the bus service is infrequent and you really need to go by car. Although it must be year since our last visit, we were recognised and greeted like old friends.

Daughter chose her usual jacket potato with coronation chicken. I usually have a well frizzed bacon sandwich, but feeling hungry today I chose a jacket potato with cheese, onion and coleslaw. This was a generous size potato with plenty of filling served with mixed salad leaves, tomato, cucumber and a helping of crisps. I was thankful I’d decided against the baked beans as well.

The sandwiches and quiche being served to a neighbouring table also looked good.

There is also a good selection of homemade cakes all of which look tempting. We were torn between the chocolate cake, coffee and walnut or sticky ginger cake. The sticky ginger cake won. It was a generous sized piece and was sticky with a good ginger flavour and big chunks of crystallised ginger.

They also offer a take out service for the cakes so we bought a slice of chocolate cake for husband who hadn’t been able to come with us. As he couldn’t manage all of it, I finished it off and it was also very good.

We’ve been visiting the Paddocks Tea Rooms on and off for over three years and have never been disappointed. Standards are consistently high. Toilets are good. Staff are lovely. Food is hot and freshly prepared. Helpings are generous and prices are reasonable. (The price quoted is for jacket potato, cake and diet coke.)

On Thursdays and Fridays, it is popular with Silver Travellers. At the weekend there are families with children. There is a large car park and ramped access to the tea room which has space for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

For the sake of my middle, it is probably just as well it isn’t the easiest of places to get to without a car!
