Reasons for trip

Did you know Bristol is home to the first Methodist chapel in the world? The New Room situated in the centre of the Broadmead shopping centre was built by John Wesley to serve the people of central Bristol. The simple chapel which dates back to 1748 is free to enter. It is open from 10.30 to 4.00 from Monday to Saturday.

There is also a café which serves light lunches and home made cakes and is ideal if you want a quiet place to relax or chat in the centre of Bristol. The upstairs has been turned into a small museum and library. Some rooms have been furnished in the style of the period while others have displays about the History of Methodism and the lives of John and Charles Wesley. There is a small charge for the museum but if you want a break from shopping I recommend it for an insight into life in 18th century Bristol.

The museum has a lift and the site has toilets on the first floor including disabled facilities and baby changing. The entrance price includes a free audio guide.
