Exhausted after 360 miles driving we didn't feel up to tackling the heavy traffic whilst navigating the obstacle course of diversion signs in Edinburgh. We left the car in the Park and Ride at Straiton. It was a wise decision – the city was hectic with Princes Street awash with road works from end to end. The Knight Residence, a block of one and two bedroom apartments, is quite easy to find on foot. It is ideally situated in the heart of the city behind the castle. Our holiday really began the minute we entered the foyer where we were given a warm welcome, keys, a tour of our apartment and clear instructions on how to drive to The Knight Residence's secure parking. Yes secure parking in Edinburgh where all other drivers were jostling for the very few spaces available.
Although Sainbury's is only a few yards away, the proprietors had thoughtfully put a pack of essentials in the kitchen including bread, milk, jams, spread, cereals, shortbread, coffee and a wide selection of teas. The apartment was also well supplied with music and DVDs . Our rooms were spacious, well furnished, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It was hard to summon up the energy to fetch the car from Straiton but once we had placed it in the secure car park there was no need to use it again until it was time to brave the 360 mile journey home. The Knight Residence is close to all the sites we had circled in our guide book therefore, although the weather wasn't kind, we were able to make the most of our visit to Edinburgh. Lots of rests in our cosy accommodation made it two days to remember with fondness.
