Reasons for trip

I treated my husband to Tom Kitchin, celebrity and Michelin star chef’s restaurant to a pre Christmas dinner at Leith in Edinburgh. We got to the restaurant at 9.30. We were shown to the bar area. We ordered two freshly squeeze orange juice while waiting for our table to be ready. I took a sip of the juice. Unfortunately the orange juice was off. It tasted and smelt engine oil from a garage. I did not want to spoil the evening, therefore I did not made a complaint.

Next we were shown to our table. The restaurant was busy but not over crowded. I could see Tom Kitchin and his chefs working hard through the glass window from where I was sitting. The waitress was very polite. She brought the menu over and took her time to explain how everything work and what the dishes on the menu were. We picked the A la Carte menu rather than the Surprise menu because we don’t want too many surprises.

For starter I ordered Pig’s Head & Langoustine and my husband ordered Scallop baked in cream sauce. For main, we ordered roast Teal (wild duck) and Wild Sea Bass. They were a selection of savoury thin biscuits with a creamy salmon dips (Canapé ) already on the table. We can help ourselves while we were waiting. The waitress also put a basket of homemade bread and butter to our table at no extra cost. We quickly tuck into the Canapé as we were very hungry then. Next she brought along a lovely cup of Carrot Velouté with apples as a complimentary pre-starter. Next come the starters, both of our starters were well presented and tasted good. The stew pig’s head meat with a big Langoustine on top , garnish with salad look beautiful. The scallop baked in a cream sauce in a shell tasted lovely. Our main courses were equally good and in good portion sizes and beautifully presented.

After the main course, we were offered a selection of cheese and biscuits. We were both rather full by then. The waitress show us the dessert menu, we picked a chocolate poached pear which is absolutely delightful.

We were in the restaurant for 3 hours. We enjoy the whole experience, apart from the orange juice. The 3 course meal included all the bread and butter, the Canapé, Carrot Velouté and pre-dessert blackcurrant sorbet. Apart from the drinks we did have to pay any extra. That makes it very good value for money.
