Historic buildings don’t always lend themselves to the modern day requirements of a luxury hotel but The Kings Arms has achieved a great blend of characterful rooms and up to date facilities.
Our extended family stayed at the hotel following a wedding and our “Queen” room was large, extremely comfortable and quiet. The contemporary decor had an opulent feel which made our stay feel like a special treat. The en-suite was roomy, with an excellent shower and complimentary White Company toiletries. One of our party was a wheelchair user and unfortunately the lift was extremely small and access to the front door impossible but access is level from the rear car park.
Service at the hotel was first class although it was tricky to find the reception desk at first as it is behind double doors between the restaurant and bar area. Every member of staff, however, was attentive and polite and we checked in easily. The car park at the rear of the hotel is accessed by ringing a buzzer on the post and although we had no trouble gaining entry others had to wait for the buzzer to be answered.
On the day following the wedding we ate breakfast in the restaurant and I can honestly say that the ham I had with poached eggs was the tastiest I have had for a long time. There is a policy at the hotel of sourcing food locally and all of our family commented on the high quality of the breakfast food.
We have since returned to the hotel for Sunday lunch (2 courses for £15) and found the food of a similarly high standard and the service excellent.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a great place to stay surrounded by the local attractions of historic Christchurch, the New Forest and sunny Bournemouth.
