This was a lovely hotel although we were a little shocked to see that the bathroom didn’t have a door and the wall between the bedroom and the bathroom where the hand basin was located had been replaced by a blind. We couldn’t work out why. We got used to the arrangement after a couple of days.

The staff were amazing and the food was good. You need to be aware that there is no flexibility with half board as unlike a lot of other hotels you couldn’t swap dinner with lunch as there was no lunch, so if you decided to go out for an evening you effectively paid for a meal you didn’t eat.

It is an Adults Only hotel and we were looking forward to that for a change. However, we weren’t prepared for just how quiet that would make it. On our first day we were a bit tired so headed for the pool. You could have heard a pin drop. There were four of us so wanted four beds together. That was no problem. However, when we spoke to each other asking which bed the other preferred, we were aware of everyone looking at us and we spent the next hour in silence. We didn’t go to the pool again but headed to the beach just outside the hotel as we felt more comfortable having the odd word with each other! There are hotel sun beds on the sandy beach and it was very pleasant. The only slightly annoying thing is the tiny fishes in the sea that nibble at your feet.

There isn’t much in Gouves and even less where the hotel was situated but we used the local tavernas at lunch times, went on a trip and used buses to get around so all in all it was a good week.
