What a fantastic idea, situated in the meat packing district of New York some 9 metres above the streets this is a disused railway line converted into a fantastic garden walkway which extends up the western side of Manhatten. We walked this 1 1/2 mile path on a Sunday morning first thing before it got too busy, it is throughly enjoyable and it really is an odd feeling walking through the middle of a skyscraper. There are toilet facilities half way down the path and cafes set up in the same location, water fountains are also provided. There are several peices of art work sited along the route and some lovely gardens, watch out for the sprinklers early on, you may get wet feet. The whole route is wheelchair accessible and due to it being a railway bed, level. Great for people watching and a pleasant way to travel uptown.
