We stay in bed and breakfasts when in the Lakes and highly recommend the one we stayed at a few years ago: Field House Guest House. It is ideally located near the shops and the lake. The owners were new at that time and had completely renovated the B&B, brilliantly combining modern style with the character of the house. Based on the paintings in the photos on the website, it looks like the owners are still in residence. One of the owners is an artist from Liverpool and his paintings adorn the walls in the common rooms. We would have been happy to buy any of them but alas, they were not for sale. They are modern and dramatic and very in keeping with the décor. The dining room and some of the guest rooms overlook the lake. There is ample parking behind the house. They provide full English breakfasts to order and cater to vegetarians and children.
