The Field Head Hotel is one of the " English Country Inns" chain, and is in Markfield, just off J22 of the A1M. We received a warm welcome and our first floor room was larger than we had expected, with a king sized (at least!) bed and large flat screen TV. The building was rebuilt in 1989 in keeping with the original 17th Century farmhouse, and the restaurant is spread out around lots of little nooks and crannies. We enjoyed an excellent value, delicious meal from their " 2 meals for £10.45" menu, with good value starters and desserts. However, I was perturbed to be presented with a 'total only' bill which I was sure was too high, and sure enough on insisting on a breakdown we found we had been charged the full rate for each meal. The staff duly apologised and assured us it would be credited on our check-our bill; it wasn't, and when I mentioned it the lady knew exactly what I meant so I suspect this happens frequently. If you enjoy walking then be sure to visit the nearby Bradgate Country Park, a deer park with wonderful walking to shake away the cobwebs. Entry is free, although parking costs £3, but it was well worth it.
