Reasons for trip

A great place to take the grandchildren is “The Factory”:https://thefactorylondon.ca/, an indoor adventure park in London Ontario. It is billed as Canada’s largest with over 170,000 square feet of space. I was there recently with some friends who were in town for the weekend. We got caught up in the food court while the kids had a ball on the trampolines and climbing areas with zip lines, not to mention the arcade. There are areas where we settled down after lunch to watch the children at play. As it is in an old factory, the acoustics make even the food court quite noisy so we had to sit close to hear each other!

There are activities for all age and ability levels. Those trying out the climbing areas are required to wear shoes and are taught how to attach themselves safely with their harnesses as they try out the various levels; the obstacles get more challenging the higher up you go. The adults had Guest stickers to wear to distinguish us from the children who had ID tags to enter the various play areas and accumulate credits for the arcade. The ID passes can also be used to load extra money for the food court which operates without cash; debit, credit or ID passes only. There is also an escape room and a virtual reality experience but we left those for another time. You can buy passes based on the amount of time you intend to stay and the areas you intend to visit. Upon arrival there are waivers to sign before loading up the ID tags. There are lockers (bring your own lock or buy one there for $5) if you don’t want to leave your belongings in the open coat racks/shoes/boots areas.

Aptly named, the venue is in the old Kellogg’s cereal factory and there are plans afoot to extend the services to include a boutique hotel, an artisan market, restaurants, the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and the Children’s Museum. It is great to see an old factory being repurposed in the community instead of being torn down. The food court has better than average food for such a venue as many adults frequent the place as well with friends or at corporate events. There is a coffee shop, wood fired pizza, a deli, an ice cream shop and a bar. The building complex is also home to office space, a distillery and a brewery.

There is plenty of free parking outside and across the road.
