We found this little gem via a KGB deal. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for a two night stay and were checked in and shown to our room by the owners daughter. Our room, room 1, was quite small but was fine for a weekend break. Given that the pub is very old it was a pleasant surprise to find modern decor and a modern ensuite shower room. With an LCD/DVD TV, tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries supplied in the bathroom the room had everything one would expect. The bed was comfortable with good quality linen and the shower was powerful and hot. The only small gripe was that there were no bedside or reading lamps which meant that we had to use the main light if we wished to read in bed. Our room was directly above the bar area and so there was some noise on the Saturday night as it was very busy with locals. Even so, it wasn't too intrusive. Breakfast was excellent with orange juice, a choice of cereals and freshly cooked locally sourced ingredients making up a hearty cooked breakfast. We ate lunch and evening meal on our first day and both meals were excellent and fair value. Locally brewed excellently kept cask ales are available. Unfortunately an evening meal was not available on the Sunday evening, the owner saying that it was too quiet to justify keeping the chef on for the evening. This was a disappointment and it would have been good to have been informed of this beforehand. However, this was only a minor hiccup of an otherwise excellent break.
