Isn’t it great to go out for a ‘spin’ in the car and then quite unexpectantly find a hidden gem you didn’t even know existed? This venue is a quintessential traditional Village Pub set in the beautiful Meon Valley. It lies between Bishops Waltham and Botley in Hampshire, just off the A334 to the north-west of Wickham. The welcome is warm and friendly, the pub is traditional and the food a dream! We had a simple lunch – we thought, of Honey-glazed Ham, Free range eggs, and hand-cut chips for the lady and sir had a rack of barbeque ribs, Duchesse potatoes, and coleslaw. What a treat and delight! Haven’t tasted better in a long, long time. This was fresh food at its best, none of that pre-heated Micro-wave rubbish as served up in the ‘chains’ here. We congratulated ourselves on our choices from a very varied menu and went on with an Eton Mess and a fresh fruit Crepe and cream to die for! All washed down with a Prosecco and a Merlot. Marvellous Lunch, super friendly and efficient staff make this our 5-star pub to further enjoy. Who can believe the bill? Under £40, I thought I was in heaven! Then I saw their selected bitter – ‘Sticky Wicket’ on draught – I was stumped and bowled over. “Middle & leg please Umpire, I want another innings!”
