The 350 year old Crab & Lobster can be found sitting near a bird hotspot on the banks of Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve, not far from Chichester.
There is marshland and south-facing benches with a pretty hamlet nearby. A mill once stood nearby, thought to be one of the finest in the country. (see pic)
The pub has a whitewashed exterior and classic Sussex tiles.
The decor inside the pub is very nice, with restful colours, flagged floors and wooden beams. There are pictures on the walls depicting what the place looked like in yesterdays! The upholstery is green and plum, giving a contemporary accent to it’s heritage surroundings. The ceilings are fairly low and there is an inviting fireplace emanating warmth. Dogs are not welcomed!
The staff are excellent; friendly and efficient. A good service.
Local caught seafood, as well as other tempting dishes, offers a wide variety on the menu. Selsey Crab is popular.
Don’t expect huge portions! There are half portions off the main menu available for children.
Everything looked quite good, although sadly, I had overcooked chips with my Beer Battered Loin of Hake and Tartare Sauce priced at …£16.95.
There is an extensive wine list to choose from. It is obviously a popular place as it was quite full for lunch.
There is a terrace and a nice beer garden at the back of the pub, with views over the Sussex countryside. Car parking is available.
The pub has an AA 5 Star rating with 2 rosettes.
