With a late afternoon flight home, we took the opportunity to explore Rome on the way to the airport, courtesy of a minivan tour provided by cruisingexcursions.com. Visiting the Colosseum has been on my Bucket List for years and it did not disappoint. Ignore the Roman 'centurions' willing to pose for a photograph – and then charge you. Join the queue for tickets – have photo ID at the ready as over 65's get in for free! The first view you get of the whole interior just takes your breath away. Set against a perfect blue sky, it certainly made me stop and think about what went on there a very long time ago.
