We arrived at The Club Barbados mid afternoon, we had left winter behind on a cold February day in the UK and arrived to find warm sunshine and 30 degrees, it felt wonderful. Neither of us been to the Caribbean before, my husband wasn't too keen on the idea but I had been looking forward to it for months. We were taken to the open sided reception and given a welcome rum punch before being taken to our room which was spacious and nicely furnished, it overlooked the 3 pools, the gorgeous tropical gardens, and the sea to our right. It had a couple of downsides though, it was on the 4th floor which meant 4 flights of stairs which were wooden and on the outside of the building, when it rained they became very slippery. Secondly we didn't have a balcony, this wasn't a problem though, we were more than happy with the room. Nor did we like the very loud entertainment in the evenings which you could hear all over the resort, it always finished by 11pm though, but we would have preferred it didn't happen at all.
We were on an all inclusive basis, dinner was served in the very pleasant restaurant with al a carte service, we thought the food was excellent with a good choice of menu. Staff were very efficient and helpful. We loved the restaurant which was open sided to the turquoise sea, if you went to dinner early enough you could have a table overlooking the sea and small beach with cruise ships gliding past in the distance, we loved it!! Breakfast was buffet style but also very good with with a wide range of choice. Lunch was also available, in addition to tea and coffee whenever you wanted it. Our favourite place for morning coffee was in the bar area, also open ended with very comfortable seats overlooking the pool, but sheltered from the frequent rain showers by the roof. My husband was very happy here doing his crosswords and sudoku puzzles!! Despite not being very keen on the idea of the Caribbean, he grew to love the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. His favourite moment though was the day we took the local bus, quite an experience, to the Kensington Oval cricket ground where we did a tour along with another couple we had become friendly with at the hotel,
Speed boat trips along the coast were also included, you had to book first thing in the morning but you could go every day if you wished. I thought the hotel was excellent value and despite the few niggles I would be happy to return. After our week in Barbados we flew to St Lucia for a further 7 nights to complete our stay in the beautiful Caribbean, it was a very special holiday.
